Queen Elizabeth II became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.
The 89-year-old had been on the throne for 63 years, 216 days, (total of 23,226 days), 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes as at 5.30pm yesterday.
With this milestone, Queen Elizabeth surpasses the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
The Queen thanked well-wishers at home and overseas for their “touching messages of kindness” as she marked this special milestone.
In a speech at the Scottish Borders, she said the title was “not one to which I have ever aspired”.
“Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness,” she as she made brief remarks to an audience.
UK Prime Minister, David Cameron said the service the Queen had given was “truly humbling”.
Long live the Queen!
