P - square, Soundcity clash over music video
Following claims by fans that P-Square music videos has stopped airing on SoundcityTV , Peter Okoye of the P-Square fame, has disclosed that SoundCity TV has refused to play their songs and did absolutely nothing for them over the past years.
The songster took to his Tweeter handle on Thursday to reveal that the television station intentionally refused to play their songs, for reasons they could not disclose.
In response to a fan’s tweet @Tygaresss1, who claimed that it’s “been a while soundcity played any of P-square’s video, Peter tweeted:@PeterPsquare: “Dear fans, we see your complaints about the absence of our videos on @SOUNDCITYtv, just to clear the air, they refused to play us.
“Don’t waste your time; they will not play our songs.
“Ignore that channel please and keep watching us on great reliable channels and other terrestrial channels like Trace TV, Mtvbase, Hip TV and Afropop.
“Thanks for the love,” Peter added.
In response, the music station tweeted, saying contrary to Peter’s statement that they had not done anything for the duo, the music channel had promoted and supported the artistes in the past and that it will be wrong for anyone to claim PSquare was not supported or had not benefited from Souncitytv.
The music channel further divulged that despite its support for the duo, they turned down their invitation for a concert, the reason Soundcity has resolved to suspend playing their videos, saying their partnership with the duo was not mutual, but one-sided.
“While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for P-Square was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided, ” Soundcitytv wrote.
@SOUNDCITYtv, wrote: “We have assisted the P-Square brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense, gave them ad-spots for their events / projects, gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming.
“For 10 Years, Soundcitytv has been a huge supporter of P-Square and the P-Square brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on Soundcitytv than any other music channel.
“We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for P-Square, since our 10 years of supporting the group meant nothing to them.
“Viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of P-Square videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.
“We invited P-Square to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer? This was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in P-Square’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers.
“While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for P-Square was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided.
“Overall, we wish the duo the best in their endeavours. SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and upcoming Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars.
“Soundcitytv reserves the right to air which ever music videos we please on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms.
“Thank you.”
