De Gea set to sign £200,000-per-week deal at United

David De Gea is ready to put behind his failed move to Real Madrid and sign a bumper £200,000-a-week contract with Manchester United.

The Spain goalkeeper was on the brink of joining the Spanish giants, but the deal could not be finalized before the La Liga deadline.

United are ready to take advantage of the situation and they met his agent Jorge Mendes on Thursday afternoon at Carrington for negotiations.

Manager Louis Van Gaal, has left De Gea out of his team since the transfer saga started, but it is understood that the 24-year-old might face Liverpool on Saturday.

Madrid president, Florentino Perez, expects De Gea to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and hinted that they are no longer keen on signing him.

“De Gea has to do what is best for his career,” he said.

“We are not contemplating that he comes next year.”

Perez also played down Mendes’ importance, saying: “At Real Madrid, Jorge Mendes only has three players Pepe, Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez and nothing beyond that.”

De Gea is currently into the last year of his current contract.
